Paterneity Leave (5 days) in UAE for Fathers

Paterneity/Parental Leave in the UAE:

His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has approved a federal decree-law amending certain provisions of the labor relations regulation. Under this amendment, male and female employees in the private sector are entitled to five days of paid parental leave to care for their newborns. This leave is effective from the baby's date of birth until the baby reaches six months of age.

This decree provides a unique benefit to both male and female private sector employees, enabling them to fulfill their family responsibilities during the crucial early months of their child's life. The introduction of paternal leave is a significant advancement in the UAE's labor market, emphasizing the importance of both parents' involvement in caring for their child, a role that was previously assumed mainly by working mothers.

The decree's impact extends to a large segment of private sector employees, contributing to the UAE's commitment to humanitarian values and supporting efforts in Emiratisation. This initiative is expected to make the private sector more appealing to highly skilled national talent, encouraging their participation.

As per federal decree-law no. 6 of 2020, amendments to federal law no. 8 of 1980 include the replacement of article 32 and the addition of a new article 74. The new article specifies that private sector employees are entitled to five days of paid parental leave, effective from the baby's birth until the baby turns six months old.
